WINGLESS: Polish Death Metal Act Releases “Majesty” Playthrough Video; Fifth Album, Ascension,...

Polish doom-tinged old-school death metal outfit WINGLESS presents an official drum playthrough video for “Majesty,” one of the focus tracks from the band’s fifth full-length, Ascension, released on Selfmadegod Records in April.

Ascension was recorded between June and November 2023 at Studio67 produced by Grzegorz Luzar, mixed and mastered by Dominik Burzym at Studio67, and completed with cover artwork by Rafał Wechterowicz and layout by Michał “Xaay” Loranc.

“Majesty” was the first single to arrive from Ascension, the track perfectly representing the current direction of WINGLESS’ crushing music. The combination of death metal heaviness and catchiness straight from the classic 1990s era of the genre has an electrifying effect. The middle part of the song, which is a perfect marriage of blastbeats and Norwegian melodies, perfectly completes the picture of this powerful track.

The new video showcases drummer Piotr Wojcik performing the thunderous percussive framework of “Majesty” to an instrumental version of the song. Wójcik states, “In my drumming, I always try to combine groove with interesting rhythmic patents. Undoubtedly, ‘Majesty’ is a perfect example of this combination. As soon as I received the raw tracks of the guitar itself, the arrangement almost immediately appeared in my head. I enriched the characteristic drive of this track with blast beats, which had the desired effect. There was then nothing left to do but to play my parts as well as I could in the recording studio. I am fully satisfied with what I managed to achieve. I invite everyone to check the effects of my work.”

WINGLESS’ instrumental “Majesty” drum playthrough video is now playing at Selfmadegod Records’ YouTube channel RIGHT HERE.

Ascension is out now on CD and digitally through Selfmadegod Records’ webshop HERE and Bandcamp HERE.

Krakow-based WINGLESS was formed at the beginning of 2012 by a lineup of well-experienced musicians who have performed or are still performing with some other groups being part of the local metal scene. Having been led by guitarist/bassist Grzegorz Luzar since its formation, drummer Piotr Wójcik joined in 2018, and in 2021, longstanding vocalist Olaf Różański was replaced by Michał “Xaay” Loranc (Redemptor). The lineup also expands to include bassist Pascal for live performances.

While at an early stage of development, the band’s music oscillated more around the cutting edge of modern metal, with the passage of time, their compositional style has gradually shifted towards classic death and doom metal, which is boldly apparent within the first moments of their new album, Ascension. WINGLESS is an ensemble perfectly aware of what and how they want to play, by consistently following their idea of creating death/doom metal, without even avoiding inspirations from metal artists of the 1980s and ’90s. Ascension delivers a conglomerate of heaviness, darkness, and a unique atmosphere particularly clearly reflected in the lyrics.

“Time for some no bullshit, no nonsense metal. There’s so much you can’t trust on the internet right now, but don’t worry — the dudes behind Polish death/doom metal act WINGLESS wouldn’t steer you wrong.” – MetalSucks

“…it seems to stare Death in the face, manifesting that terrible unwavering gaze and the crushing desperation it provokes…” – No Clean Singing

“The unpredictable rhythms keep the record interesting from beginning to end, while the familiar riffs give you a comfortable embrace of extreme metal nostalgia.” – Metal Digest
